Pillaiyar Patti Karpaga Vinayagar Temple is a renowned temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, located in the Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, India. The Legend of Karpaga Vinayagar
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha is worshipped before starting any new venture to ensure success and the elimination of obstacles. The name Karpaga Vinayagar is derived from Karpaga Vriksham, the celestial wish-fulfilling tree. Just like the divine tree grants wishes, devotees believe that praying to Karpaga Vinayagar will fulfill their desires and bring prosperity into their lives.
The Unique Idol and Architecture
One of the most striking features of this temple is the six-foot-tall Ganesha idol, which is carved into a cave wall. Unlike most representations of Lord Ganesha, the Karpaga Vinayagar idol faces north, a rare and highly auspicious positioning in Hindu temple architecture. The deity has two hands, rather than the commonly depicted four, with his right hand holding a broken tusk and the left hand resting on his hip. This portrayal symbolizes wisdom and self-sacrifice.
The temple also features inscriptions in Tamil and Sanskrit, dating back to the 4th century CE, which provide evidence of its historical and religious significance.
